Penlee Shortmat Tour 2013

2013 Shortmat Tour

The Annual Weekend trip will be from

 Friday February 1^st to Sunday 3^rd.

It will be in Torquay again (Victoria Hotel) and for the reasonable price of £100 - £120 each, dependant on accommodation requests. This includes DB & B for all the weekend, all bowling and 2 matches against local clubs. I need to know who wants to go ASAP so the closing date is the 28^th October.  If going please put your name on the list in the clubhouse or e-mail me. Payment will probably need to be made fairly quickly but I’ll contact people as and when required. 

I WILL TRY TO MEET ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO SHARE – IF WILLING PLEASE SHOW WHO YOU WILL SHARE WITH IF KNOWN

2012 Presentation Night

THE PRESENTATION EVENING WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE LUGGERS HOTEL ON FRIDAY 9TH NOVEMBER AT 7PM.

YOU WILL HAVE A CHOICE OF ORDERING A TWO COURSE OR THREE COURSE MEAL (STARTER/MAIN OR MAIN/SWEET OR ALL 3 COURSES). YOU NEED TO LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU PUT YOUR NAME DOWN WHICH OPTION YOU HAVE CHOSEN.

STARTERS WILL BE A CHOICE OF SOUP, PRAWN COCKTAIL OR MUSHROOMS IN ROQUEFORT SAUCE. MAINS WILL BE A MEAT CARVERY, NUT ROAST, SALMON OR LEMON SOLE WITH VEGETABLES. A SELECTION OF DESSERTS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE NIGHT.

Ken Pickin's funeral will be held on Friday 7th September at 10.30. It will be held in the Roman Catholic Church, Rosvean Road, Penzance. Yacht Inn afterwards, anyone welcome.

I just want to thank all players who represented Penlee at the registered A players competition. The two rinks were:

Martin W, Tom Lapworth, David Balow and Nigel (purple patch) Jelbart.
Roy Sumner, Ray Jeffery, Mike Richards and Joe Bolan

We managed a creditable second place, Camborne being the eventual winners.

Ladies Top Team Final

We done ladies but unfortunately they went down to Helston 3-2. There's always next year!

A Team evening get together

I would like to hold an A team evening. It will be for any player who played and represented the A team during the 2012 season with partners if you wish.

It will be held at the Yacht Inn, Penzance on Tuesday 21st August at 7.30pm.

A menu is attached. Click here to see it. The Yacht do need to know how many are coming and we need to pre-order prior to the night.

Bowls Cornwall Group 1 Finals

Congratulations to Roy Sumner and Ray (Limpy) Jeffery for winning the Benevolent Pairs. Ray deputised for David Balow who unfortunately couldn't play.

Also congrats to me as I've managed to win the Secretary's Singles competition using the woods I bought from Keith Baker.

And finally well done to our Ladies in reaching the Top Team Final. We wish you all the best in the final.

Keith Baker - Sad news

Unfortunately Keith died earlier this afternoon. He had been suffering from pneumonia for a few days. 

The funeral is being handled by Burroughs Kearey tel: 01736 364062 and there will be more details to follow in due course.

Hopefully this will be the last time this season but with the weather as it's been who knows.

These are the teams for the re-arranged games against Porthleven (17th July), Camborne (25th July) and Bickford Smith (6th August) and A team registered players competition on 11th August.

Outdoor Bowls Tour 2013

Someone (not mentioning any names - Ray Jeffery) had the idea of having an outdoor bowls tour next year. Before anything is done I would like to guage peoples views in how many would be interested. If it did happen it would be probably around middle of September 2013 and would be in the Torquay area. Maybe for 3-4 days. So if interested let Ray (Limpy) Jeffery know or myself.

Golowan Festival. Sunday 24th June

Dear Members

 

Penlee were asked and agreed to host a taster day as part of the golowan festival. The promenade is to provide a taste of various activities with a sporting theme and we are providing the opportunity to play bowls. We are also looking to provide refreshments to anyone who wants to pay!! To this end we do need your support in various ways. The first is to turn up through the day (from approx 11am to 4pm) where we can have roll-ups etc. Secondly any food (preferably that can be frozen) would be very welcome as well.

 

Please try to help make this day a success.

A Rare Event

Was down at the club this evening and witnessed a very rare event. Fortunately I had my camera with me - I was waiting for my daughter & granddaughter to pass by in the "Race for Life" - so was able to record it for the non-believers.  Maurice Weeks hasn't had three woods this close to the jack for years! No chalk though.

Saturday 31st

Just a thankyou to everyone who turned up on Saturday. Firstly removing the shortmat which went very quickly and then for the maintenance (notice boards etc) being put up. Also for the few ladies who turned out and did a great cleaning job.
